30 Days of Truth Cahllenge : Day 26

Day 26

Have you ever thought about giving up on life? If so, when and why?

It's interesting to be thinking about this after just writing about why I think I'm still alive today. But, there was a time that I thought about ending my life.

I'd rather not go into detail about it. It scared me enough to know that I could think that way. And, it's definitely not something I'm proud of it.

All I want to say about this one is that no matter how awful your life may seem there's always hope. There's always a silver lining to whatever is happening, even if you can't see it yet. And there are so many people that love you and would greatly miss you if you were gone.

30 Days of Truth Challenge : Day 25

Day 25

The reason you believe you’re still alive today.

I've actually thought a lot about this one over the year. There have been a few close calls in my life, such as when I was a little over a years old, I almost drown in our backyard swimming pool. the funny thing is that my older sister, Maggie, who basically saved my life by going to get our parents, got in trouble for it because they were trying to video our brother hitting a baseball and the one time he hit it, was when our mom put down the camera to listen to Maggie. And yes, most of this is on video, none of the exciting parts, just Peter not hitting the ball, the aftermath of them fishing me out of the pool and Maggie sitting in a time out. To this day she says she'll think twice before saving my life again ;D.

There was another, more recent experience, that happened back when I was living with Maggie, while her husband was deployed. We lived out in the middle of no where part of Utah. It was the middle of January and I was driving in early one morning to cover a friend's shift at work, and of course it had freshly snowed the night before. I have very little experience driving in the snow and I tend to get advice mixed up. I was following the tracks in the snow, which apparently you are not supposed to do, and just ahead I could see that they went in towards the median. It was too late to safely, so I hit it. The car started to fish tale and then swung around into the snowbank, so that the car was facing the road. Another car comes around and the guy offers me a ride back to the fire station and originally I said no, because I've heard too many stories. But, when he came back and asked a second time, I just felt like it was ok and I should go with him. By the time we got to the fire station, the fire fighters were getting a call about an accident out there, and they told me that there would enough cars out there to tow mine out of the snowbank. So, I get a ride back from this guy that stopped before. As we're driving, I noticed that the accident was really close to where my car was stuck. When we get to the line of stopped cars from the accident, I jump out and start walking towards my car. It was just starting to get light and I could just make out the two cars from the accident. One was a reddish pickup truck and the other...yeah you guessed it...was my little blue car. I started running towards the accident saying to myself, "that's my car...that's my car...that's my car." Here's the scene that I came to, this little Toyota truck, from the front bumper to it's front tires was inside my little Chevy Cavalier. My driver seat was now on top of the emergency break. I later found out that the truck had plowed into my car with enough force to move it 30-40 feet from it's original location. Yeah, even if I had seen the truck coming at me and gotten out of the car, I would have ended up under the two vehicles. I just sank into the snow and couldn't breath. I remember somebody asking me who I was and what I was doing out there, and I explained that the little blue car was mine. They looked very relieved and started yelling at another person, something about finding the other driver.

I still get chills thinking about how close I was to being in that car when the truck hit it. There was only about 5-10 minutes between me getting into that guys car and when the truck hit my car. And I know that it was the Holy Ghost telling me to get into his car, because I wouldn't have otherwise.

But why am I here now? Why didn't my life end there? Why was I not just another story on the evening news? Why did the Lord see fit to save my life and not anothers?

I can't give you a definite answer to that. Maybe it was because I needed to be here to marry my husband and have our two daughters. Maybe their lives are why I'm here now. Maybe they will grow up to do something that will alter the world as we know it.

Or maybe I still have a lot to learn from this life and it wasn't my turn to go.

I don't think I'll know the answer to this question until my life is finally over and I can look back and see what I have and have not done.

I just hope that I take this life and live it to the fullest, because I have learned that it can end in an instant. I hope that when my time comes, I'll be able to smile and feel fulfilled in my life. That I was able to do all the things I needed to do and wanted to do in the time that the Lord gave me.

30 Days of Truth Challenge : Day 24

Day 24

Make a play list to someone, and explain why you chose all the songs. (Just post the titles and artists and letter)

Ok, so I'm not one for knowing a lot about music, such as titles and artists. I like listening to music and I do know a few, but I don't know enough to make a play list like this without a lot of searching. And, even then I probably wouldn't be able to find the songs I'm thinking of or looking for.

But, I know one song that has great significance to both myself and someone very important to me...yup you guessed him, Jake. and, I decided to use our song...

{ "Glory of Love" by Peter Cetera }

It's kind of funny story of how this became our song. Months before Jake and I had even met, I heard this song on a TV show. They queue the, "I am the man that will fight for your honor," while this guy goes to "defend" his girlfriend's honor against the ex-boyfriend, who is much larger than him and spreading untrue rumors about the girl. I thought, that must be such an amazing feeling. To have someone care so much for you, that they would put them self in harms way just to protect your reputation and defend your honor. But, I couldn't find the song and everyone I asked didn't seem to know it either. Then, Jake and I started dating. We were over at his apartment, getting ready for some YSA activity and had a little extra time before we had to leave. He goes over to the stereo and puts a CD on. Then he walks back to me and starts dancing with me in the middle his living room. As the song plays, it gets to that line, "I am the man that will fight for your honor." I stopped and looked at him and ask, "How did you know about this song?" He looks at me like I'm nuts. He didn't know anything about my trying to find it or anything. No one had told him anything about it. It just happened to be the one he decided on playing at that moment. It was also the first song we danced to, so it became our song.

Whenever I hear it, I feel like they're singing about us. Jake has always made me feel like my happiness is the most important thing to him. That he would do anything for me. And, now that he has joined the Army, he is literally going to be fighting for me and my safety...as well as everyone else's ;). There's so many parts of this song that reminds me of Jake and I. It's like it was written about us, before there was even an "us".

Dear Jake,

I love you so much. I hope to grow old with you. To be able to be the one that can hold you up when everything is falling around us. I hope I can be everything you ever wanted and more. I hope that you always know how much I love you and care for you. I love you.

Love, Anna

Day 23

Something you wish you had done in your life.

Thought a about this for a while and there are a few things I wish I had done.

~ I wish I had tried out for sports in High School. I never thought I'd be good enough, so I didn't even try. I did do track, but I didn't have to actually "try out" for that...I just showed up ;)

~ I wish I had done some crazy stuff before I had gotten married and had kids. Things like, taken a last minute cross country road trip to no where, sky diving, bungee jumping, para-sailing, surfing, scuba diving with sharks or throw the ultimate New Year's Eve Party. But, now I have to consider if it's safe enough for me to do or if it's worth the cost to put it together. Who knows, maybe I'll do some of those someday... ;D
~ I wish Jake and I had waited a little longer to have kids. Just so we could of had more time as just the 2 of us. Not that I don't want my kids, I just wish Jake and I could have had more time to ourselves before we became parents.
~ I wish I had planned our wedding more for what I wanted, instead of trying to make things easier on everyone else. Because, it didn't make any difference, people still complained. There are times I wish that Jake and I had just eloped, then I wouldn't have gotten my hopes up and then been disappointed in how wedding day turned out. I couldn't even watch our wedding video for at least a year, because it made me so upset.
I guess this is the "shoulda-coulda-woulda" list. There's still a few things here that I could do in my life, I'll just have to put a little more effort into them, but they can be done ;D

Day 22

Something you wish you hadn’t done in your life.

I guess there's a lot I wish I hadn't done in my life, but nothing that stands out to me as the one thing I wish I had never done. I've learned from all of those experiences and have tried not to repeat any of them.

I hope to minimize the future experiences that I wish never happened, and to learn from the ones that get past me.

30 Days of Truth Challenge : Day 21

Day 21

(scenario) Your best friend is in a car accident and you two got into a fight an hour before. What do you do?

Well, for me, I'd get myself to the hospital as quickly as I could. I don't care about some petty argument or fight, especially if they are one of my best friends.

But, this one hits a little close to home for me. When I really started thinking about it, it scared me to think of how I would feel if I didn't make it to the hospital in time?

I have a handful of best friends, but only that I consider my "best friend", and that's my husband Jake. He is the one that knows all my secrets, all my fears, all my hopes and dreams, and he holds my heart and future in his hands. I can't imagine my life without him. I honestly don't know where I'd today be without him.

Well, if you've read any of the previous post you know that Jake has recently enlisted in the Army. And, that this has heightened my awareness of how fragile our lives are. So, when I considered this question, I immediately thought of him. I know that I would be commandeering any kind of transportation I needed to get to him, even after an awful fight. The only thing that would be going through my mind at that point would be, "Hold on! Hold on, until I can get there, so I can tell you I love you and I can say sorry for being a stupid girl and for making you feel like you are anything less than wonderful and amazing. Please, just hold on!"

It scares me to realize that there is, however small, a possibility that this could happen in the near future. And, for that, I try really hard not to allow myself to get stuck on stupid petty things that have no significants to us and only take away the precious time we have together.

I hope I never have to be faced with that scenario. I hope that that if anything were to happen to my husband and best friend, that our last conversation would be one of love, laughter and joy. I hope that my last words to him are, "I love you," and not something pouty and selfish.

I love you Jake :-*

30 Days of Truth Challenge : Day 20

Day 20

Your view on drug and alcohol.

I'm not exactly sure what to put here. But, I'll give it a try...

I don't like drugs or alcohol. I've never tried either one...other than medicinal drugs and under a Doctor's care.

I don't see any reason to "experiment" with drugs and alcohol. What's the point in trying something you're just going to want to quit later. Or wish you hadn't done all together.

I'm a mother, and I have to be able to stand up to my kids when they say all their friends are doing something, so why can't they. I can tell them, "I've been in your shoes. I lived through not doing all the stuff that my 'friends' were doing. And, yeah I lost some friends because of it, but I also gained the respect of my true friends."

30 Days of Truth Challenge : Day 19

Day 19

What do you think of religion? or What do you think of politics?

I'm not exactly sure what my views are on either one. I try to go to church every Sunday and try to vote for the person I feel would do the best job.

I get very frustrated with politics. I really hate the banter back and forth, and all the "He Said/She Said" that goes along with it. I wish it would be simple, cut and dry. Sometimes I wish that there was a better way to figure out how to govern a large group of people. Politicians have a tendency of getting wrapped up in their own agendas that they forget about the needs of the people that voted for them in the first place. But, I guess we'll never have a perfect system with only imperfect people to run it.

Day 18

What are your view on gay marriage.

This is my opinion.

I do not support it at all. I do not believe that is an appropriate lifestyle choice. And, yes I said choice. I believe that people that say they our gay, lesbian or bi-sexual, have made the choice to live that way. Our bodies were not decided for that. The puzzle pieces do not fit that way. There's a reason the call the prong side of a plug the "male" and the electrical outlet the "female". You wouldn't try to plug in your lamp plug into another lamp plug, and expect them to turn on (no pun intended)?

That's the gist of how I feel and how I view this subject.

30 Days of Truth Challenge : Day 17

Day 17

A book you've read that changed your view on something.

This is a moment where I wish I could say the scriptures, not that they necessarily changed my view on anything, more that they would have affirmed my views on everything. But, alas, I have not actually "read" the scriptures. I did most of the reading through seminary and institute, and I try to keep up with the Sunday School Lessons, but I still haven't really read any of them from one cover to the other. I'm just not a big reader, but I'm hoping to change that. I have a new goal for myself. To read all the scriptures, from cover to cover. I haven't set a time frame yet, but I'm looking to be done around about this next summer.

As for the rest of the books I've read in my life, none stick out as one that changed my views on anything. Again, not a big reader.

Recently, I've been doing a lot more reading. Mainly because I needed something intelectual to stimulate my brain. Learning your colors, ABC's and 123's doesn't help much if you already learned them. And my kids are still learning how to correctly pronounce most of their words, so my everyday conversations are mostly spent translating jibberish.

I hope to have a few more books added to my list by the end of the year, but the biggest one is still the scriptures.

30 Days of Truth Challenge : Day 16

Day 16

Someone or something you could definitely live without.

Well, I guess there's a few things I "should" live without, such as all those sweets I keep eating. But, I had a difficult time trying to find things that I "definitely" could live without.

Here's what I've come up with :

~ I could live without all the hatefulness in the world. I think we, myself included, need to start looking at everyone else as a member of their own family. You may not always agree with what they do or how they live their life, but you love them anyways.

~ I could live without those pushy door to door salesmen guys. Had one come to the door the other day, so I lied, yes I lied, and told him I had already bought that from one of his buddies. HE STILL TRIED TO SELL IT TO ME!! I was like okay, forget this, I told him to "please" go away and not bother me again. Really annoying!!

~ I could live without Kea(our puppy) peeing and pooping everywhere. Can we just get house trained already? I'm getting a little tired of feeling like I live in a toilet!

That's what I came up with. I guess there's not a lot of stuff that bugs me right now, because I'm busy trying to stay busy. :)

30 Days of Truth Challenge : Day 15

Day 15

Something or someone you couldn't live without, because you've tried living without it.

Well, that's easy...

{ My Hubby Jake }

I hate being away from him. Which will be pretty often, since he enlisted in the Army. It's not so bad, as long as I can still talk or text him on the phone, but it gets really lonely when there's nothing, no communication at all. Even "snail mail" is better than nothing at all. Because, at least then I have something to look forward to. Something that has traveled miles and great distances, from his hands to mine. A paper and ink translation of his thoughts, hopes and dreams.

But, as an Army Wife, I have to get used to not talking to my soldier whenever I want. I can't just ask him how his day was or tell him about mine.

On the other hand, it makes every moment we are together more wonderful, because we know that there's always a chance he could be gone the next day. We know that we need to enjoy our family time, and not waste it on fighting about who left their dishes in the sink or silly little things like that.

Our time together has been, well not perfect, but definitely a lot better. And, a lot of that has to do with me. I'm normally the one picking the fights. And most of them are about nothing of any great importance in any scheme, grand or otherwise. There's a part of me that has to have things done just so, and if there not, watch out! I've had to learn how to control that and allow things to settle however they're going to settle. When you're married and you have kids, this becomes a daily task, because nothing is going to turn out just the way you want it. And, a lot of that has to do with the fact that there are so many other people trying to make things work, that there's too many variables for it to end up just the way you envisioned it.

I love my Jake so much. He has made his whole world revolve around me, well and our two little girls.

One of the biggest grievances he had, when we were having financial problems, was that he couldn't buy me flowers anymore. He loves surprising me with flowers, and I love getting them. He also hated that we couldn't go out on dates anymore. Well, I guess we kind of went on dates, but I don't think the "value menu" really counts. At least we could still afford to get the occasional movie, with his free movie rental code for Red Box. He loves cuddling up with me and watching movies, not that I mind it myself :) He's also an amazing father. He loves playing and teasing and tickling and flipping them around those two little cuties. He hates being away from our girls and the feeling of missing out. He was able to be here for the baby milestones, like sitting, rolling, crawling, walking, and first words, for the most part. But, there's still a lot more going on, and he hates that he can't be here for it. It's hard being so far away from the one person you want to be the closest to.

We've always loved being together. We almost knew it from the moment we met. There was about 2 weeks between the time we met to when we started dating, and only about 5 days after that we knew we wanted to marry each other. So, most of our "dating" was spent planning our wedding and our future together. We didn't want to waste a single moment being without each other.

I'm so excited that I have such an amazing husband to spend the rest of life with and into the eternities. I still get butterflies in my stomach when I think about him. When we went out to his Basic Training Graduation, I couldn't hardly eat anything, I was so nervous about seeing him for the first time in over 2 months. there wasn't anything in particular that I was worried about, I was just so excited that I was finally going to see my best friend for the first time in so long.

Some people have told me that it gets easier. Some part of me hopes that's true, but another part hopes that the pain I feel doesn't go away. It's kind of like a swift kick, a reminder that he still has my heart, that I still love him. That I'll be anxiously awaiting his next return home with open arms. To hear his voice speak my name. To look into his eyes as they look into mine. To feel the touch of his hand brush across my face.

I love you honey :)

30 Days of Truth Challenge : Day 14

Day 14

A hero that has let you down.

Actually, I take that back, I think I remember someone. This person has been apart of my life since before I was born. they had their ups and downs. And led the most perfect life on the earth to date.

I bet you already know who it is, but I'll go ahead and tell you anyways.

{ Jesus Christ }

He is, honestly, the only person that I have had a constant admiration towards. But, he's NEVER let me down. On the contrary, I probably have let him down more often than not. I know my life is not even close to mimicking his, but I do try to keep it going in the general direction. I try to remember to read my scriptures everyday, say my prayers everyday, go to all my meeting, be patient, not to be prideful and everything else that would make this blog posting way too long.

So, I guess, here's my response to today's topic :

If you're feeling like your "hero" is letting you down, maybe it's time to find one that's never let anyone down.

30 Days of Truth Challenge : Day 13

Day 13

A band or artist that has gotten you through some tough days.

I know this one said to write a letter, but it was not really the "band" or "artist" that got me through, but their songs. And, since I have 2 songs, I didn't want to have to write 2 letters.

Okay, so these are the 2 songs that immediately came to mind :

"It's My Life" By Bon Jovi
&
"Goodbye Earl" By Dixie Chicks

If you've ever heard the songs you probably already know what I'm going to say about them, but none the less.

So, these were the 2 songs, back when I was in High School, that I would reached for when I was having a bad day.

I mainly chose, "It's My Life," if I was having issues with my parents. Obviously, I wanted someone to agree with the way I felt when I was told I couldn't do something, which was actually very rare, because I was a pretty good kid. Just mention to your parents that I was one of the people that you were hanging out with and they'll forgive you for being late for curview...this actually happened. That being said, I was still a teenager and I was getting anxious for the day that I wouldn't have to ask permission to do something I already knew was okay.

Now to, "Goodbye Earl." I don't think there's a single girl out there that didn't have at least a handful of crushes in High School. I definitely had my fair share and then some, hello, teenage girl! But, I was always the friend and never the girlfriend in High School, so there would be days where, through no intention of the boy himself, I would get a little heartbroken, especially around the dances. And it wasn't just the guys, there were some girls that drove crazy too. It was really hard to stand by and listen to the girls, the ones in particular that my crushes asked, complain that the "HAD" to go with this guy. I really just wanted to scream at them, "If you don't want to go then tell him and maybe he'll ask ME!! And, then we can go have a good time and you can enjoy sitting at home." I did all the asking out in High School, but I tried to strictly keep it to the "girls ask guys" dances except for my Junior Prom. But, by the time my Senior Prom came around, I had had enough and got a group of my girl friends together and we decided that who ever of us didnt' get asked we'd plan to go to my aunt's house on the coast for the weekend. It was so much fun! It was a whole heck of a lot cheaper than the dance, even with us shopping all weekend.

So, those are my songs. They really helped me get that negative energy out, so I could go back to enjoying my life. I haven't even heard either of those songs in so many years. I guess they served their purpose for me and I've definitely moved on from fighting with my parents and all those boys from High School. I still butt heads with my parents, but it's more like advice than them telling me what to do. And all those boys from High School...girls you can have 'em! I'm still friends with some of those guys, but I am truly happy that I didn't end up with any of them. But, not one of them can hold a candle to my hubby. It's funny to go back home and catch up with some of these guys and I look at them and think, "Really? I had a crush on this guy? He's not even that cute."
